the bicarbonate/carbonic acid buffer is also present in chickens. however, chickens also combine the carbonate in their blood with calcium ions to make calcium carbonate for their eggshells. since chickens do not sweat, they pant in hot weather. what effect would this have on the ph of their blood and the strength of the eggshells they produce?

Respuesta :

The heat stress that chickens experience will results in the over production of lactate in their blood which lead to a lowering of their blood pH.

What is pH ?

pH of a solution or blood is the measure of H + ion concentration in it. Thus, it measures how much acidic or basic the solution is . pH of a solution is dependant on the temperature, pressure and concentration of the solution.

Chickens are lack of sweat glands. Thus the temperature of their skin cannot be decreased. Chickens are thus not able to experience the cooling of sweating.

The thermal stress occurring in the body of chickens will result in the accumulation of lactate in their body which further leads a lowering of blood pH.

The eggshell they produce is made of calcium carbonate. When the pH is lowered the Ca ions do not dissolve in blood leads to weakening of eggshells.
