In A Farewell to Arms, Frederick Henry serves as the protagonist, lead character, and narrator. Henry is most frequently referred to as "Tenente". Henry is careless and overindulges in alcohol, which causes him to sustain unnecessary injuries. But he has a lot of popularity. Henry develops feelings for Catherine as well.
Manera works as a driver, like Henry. He is a mechanic as well. Although he thinks retreating to cease fighting is the wrong approach, Manera is waiting for the war to conclude.
