The readers are left to think about the Daisy's emotional state and her relationship with tom that she is completely disheartened about Tom's affair and their marriage is tied together as if by a thread.
Daisy was a very beautiful, but materialistic person as her character is defined in the chapter whereas Tom was a hypocritical bully who was all talk about his wealth. As it has been said in the chapters that follow that tom was a cheater, he had cheated on his wife that is daisy multiple times even weeks after their marriage.
When daisy found about it, she was completely dishearten as she had slowly fallen in love with the man that she initially married for a wealthy lifestyle.
