The four sequestered cells at one end are most probably destined to become the germ cells of the adult. Germ cells originate in the primitive streak of many animals and migrate to the developing gonads via the gut of an embryo. They then go through the meiosis before the Multicellular development into adult gametes, either eggs or sperm.
The plants, unlike animals, do not have germ cells designated throughout early development. The instead, germ cells can develop from mature somatic cells, such as the floral meristem of flowering plants. Multicellular eukaryotes are made up of the two basic cell types.
