Bumetanide, also known by the name bumex, is administered in people suffering from kidney, cardiovascular and liver diseases. The drug is incorporated in cases of edema or fluid retention. As evident by the function, the drug comes under the class of Diuretics loop.

The method of intake can be oral, infused through veins or as bolus (intravenous). The drug also has side effects which include drowsiness, vomiting, weakness, confusion, irregular or fast heartbeat etc.

The drug acts in nephron of kidney with specific site being ascending loop of Henle. It inhibits reabsorption of sodium, chloride and water thus increasing the urine output.
