A mixture of sperm cells and fluids from seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbourethral gland form semen or seminal fluid.
The semen is a slightly alkaline mixture of the sperm cells and it is secreted from the accessory glands. It contains sugars, proteins and even some vitamins and minerals.
The secretion of semen is from vesicle that contributes about 60% of its volume and most of the remainder comes from prostate glands. The sperm and secretion from the bulbourethral glands contribute a very small volume.
The volume of semen per ejaculation may vary from 1.5 to 6ml. That contains usually between 50 to 150 million sperms per millilitre of semen.
