What is 'Generality of behavior'?
One of the seven elements of applied behavior analysis identified by Baer, Wolf, and Risely (1968) was "generality of behavior change". When a new behavior appears outside of a learning environment, generalization of the behavior change happens.
Generalization exists when the behavior occurs in these several dimensions without relearning and can occur across 1) environments, 2) time, and 3) persons.
The ability of a functional relationship found in one situation to anticipate the relationship found in another situation is referred to as a generality of a finding. "Generality" more often relates to functional connections than specific occurrences.
