Two challenges youth encounter as volunteers are undervalued position and too little time
Troubling aspect of volunteering is that the volunteers are seen as the low members on the organizational totem. They have no involvement in strategy and planning. They work for free, and their interest is good willed and thus volunteer management is likewise undervalued. Further, volunteer management is not often well funded and thus volunteer managers have a few resources to fuel the energy.
When an organization is understaffed or doesn't have dedicated volunteer manager, the responsibility burden falls on other staff members. Overworked staff struggles to balance their work with volunteer engagement and retention. Young volunteers have too little time and thus attracting them to volunteer work requires effective and seamless program and strategy.
