Scopolamine is an  anticholinergic drug, which indicates that it inhibits the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. The mechanism of action of drug is non-selective competitive inhibition of G-protein-coupled muscarinic receptors abbreviated as mAChRs.

This drug is commonly used to prevent nausea and vomiting generally felt after operation. Before surgery the dry mouth production side effect of drug is used to decrease saliva (if produced in excess). Also, the drug is helpful in motion sickness.  

Drug is associated with other side effects like  decreased sweating, dizziness, redness on the area where drug is applied, constipation etc. Common brand name of the drug is -Transderm Scop, Donnatal and Phenohytro.
