In the wonderful wizard of oz, dorothy and her traveling companions encounter many obstacles as they journey to oz. one is a wide ditch. they must come up with a plan on how to cross the ditch. who devises a plan to get them all across safely?

Scarecrow uses his “brain” to devise a plan for crossing. He asks the Tin Woodman to chop down a tree forming a bridge over the gap. As they began to cross, two Kalidahs, frightening beasts with the heads of tigers and bodies of bears, start to chase the group. "They were all greatly pleased to see how easily he did it, and after the Scarecrow had got down from his back the Lion sprang across the ditch again. Dorothy thought she would go next; so she took Toto in her arms and climbed on the Lion's back, holding tightly to his mane with one hand"
