There are various factors that may impact the solubility of substances in water, the most impactful of which are temperature and pressure, for reasons I will explain.

How do temperature and pressure affect solubility?

As mentioned above, there are many factors that may affect the solubility of a substance in water, some of these include:

  • Polarity of the substance.
  • Kinetic energy applied to the solution.
  • The size of the molecules involved.
  • Temperature
  • Pressure.

The most impactful are temperature and pressure. Most substances will become more soluble in increased temperature solutions, however, this is only the case for solids and liquids, and is opposite for gases, which become less soluble with higher temperatures. For gases, pressure plays a big role in their solubility, which increases with the pressure.

Therefore, we can confirm that there are various factors that may impact the solubility of substances in water, the most impactful of which are temperature and pressure
