The support commander grants the support commander access to his or her capabilities within the directions and priorities set forth by the founding authorities. The supporting commander should provide a liaison to the supporting commander to assist in planning operations and to ensure shared situational awareness.
Assistant commanders should be aware that the assistance they provide to the commander they assist may take precedence over their own duties. He/she must inform both the commanding officer and/or enforcement authorities he/she supports of any actual or perceived risks to the mission planned or ongoing.
