A grocery store manager is trying to keep track of egg deliveries. the last
shipment of eggs he received had two carton sizes. the larger sized cartons
contain 6 more eggs than the smaller. the store received 32 of the large
cartons and 24 of the small cartons. if 976 eggs were delivered in total, how
many eggs does each size carton contain?

Respuesta :

The large cartoon contain 20 eggs and small cartoon contain 14 eggs, if larger sized carton conatin 6 more eggs than the smaller by substitution method.

Let the capacity for conating eggs of the larger cartoon be x and for the smaller cartoon be y.

According to the given question.

The larger cartoon contains 6 more eggs than the smaller.

⇒ x = 6 + y

The store received 32 of the large cartoons and 24 of the small cartoons and 976 eggs dilivered total.

⇒ 32x + 24y = 976

Now, substitute the value of x = 6 + y in the above equation.

32(6 + y) + 24y  = 976

⇒ 192 +32y + 24y = 976

⇒ 56y = 976 - 192

⇒ 56y = 784

⇒ y = 784/56

⇒ y = 14

Therefore,

x = 6 + 14 =  20

Hence, the large cartoon contain 20 eggs and small cartoon contain 14 eggs.
