William Samuel Paley (September 28, 1901 – October 26, 1990) was an American businessman, primarily involved in the media, and best known as the chief executive who built the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) from a small radio network into one of the foremost radio.
William Paley (1743 – 1805) argued that the complexity of the world suggests there is a purpose to it.
This suggests there must be a designer, which he said is God. Paley used a watch to illustrate his point.
Paley cultivated CBS from a handful of struggling radio stations in 1928 into what was, for a time, the most powerful communications company in the world.
