The five roots of anterior rami that unite to form the superior, middle, and inferior trunks in the posterior triangle of the neck.
What is posterior triangle?
The sternocleidomastoid muscle is located posterior to a triangular region known as the posterior triangle. Anterior, posterior, and inferior boundaries make up its three borders. The sternocleidomastoid muscle's posterior boundary is its anterior border.
The inferior border is the middle third of the clavicle, while the posterior border is the anterior margin of the trapezius muscle.
The prevertebral fascia, levator scapulae, splenius capitis, and scalene muscles cover the floor of the area, which is covered by the investing layer of deep cervical fascia and integument. The posterior triangle is divided into a small supraclavicular and a big occipital triangle by the inferior belly of the omohyoid.
The occipital triangle has the same anterior and posterior boundaries as the posterior triangle. However, the superior margin of the inferior belly of the omohyoid muscle now forms its foundation (inferior border).
