Contaminated laundry is defined by OSHA as "laundry that has been soiled with blood or OPIM" and includes towels, personal apparel, uniforms, scrub suits, gowns, and drapes used during surgical procedures.
Contaminated laundry is defined as laundry (i.e., bedding, towels, wash cloths, lab coats, coveralls, aprons, gowns, etc.) that has been soiled with blood or other potentially infectious materials or may include contaminated sharps in the context of OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen standard.
If you come into touch with a hazardous substance, you may need to remove and dispose of your clothing immediately, and then wash yourself. Removing your garments and cleaning your body will minimize or eliminate the toxin, making it non-hazardous. This is known as decontamination.
