The entity relationship model uses the associative entity to represent a(n) M:N or many-to-many relationship between two or more entities. Many-to-many dimensions are supported by Analysis Services, enabling more sophisticated analytics than what can be described by a traditional star schema.
All dimensions in a traditional star schema have a one-to-many link with a fact table. Each fact connects to one dimension member; many facts are related to a single dimension member.
