Energy released from the metabolism of glucose and fatty acids contributes to the length of time that PCr can function as the major source of energy .
What is metabolism ?
Metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink in to energy .during this complex process ,calories in the food and beverages are combined with oxygen to release the energy for your body's function.
Factors influencing to determine individuals metabolism :
1) your body size and composition : people who are larger or have more muscles burn more calories ,even at rest .
2) your sex : men usually have less body fat and more muscle than do women of the same age and weight ,which means men burn more calories.
3) your age : as you getting older ,the amount of muscles tend to decrease and fat accounts for more of your weight , slowing down calorie burning .
Carbohydrate metabolism is a functional biochemical process that ensures a constant supply of energy to living cells . the most important carbohydrate is glucose , which can be broken down via glycolysis ,enter into the Kreb's cycle and oxidative phosphorylation to generate ATP .
fatty acid metabolism consists of various metabolic processes involving or closely related to fatty acids ,a family of molecules classified within the lipid macronutrient category . these processes can be divided into two ; 1) anabolic process , 2)catabolic process .
In catabolism ,fatty acids are metabolized to produce energy in the form of ATP . in anabolism ,fatty acids are important precursors of triglycerides , phospholipids ,second messengers ,hormones ,and ketone bodies .
