As a Medical assistant communicating with the patient's family is very important task. In some case communication is key so as a medical assistant it is important to pay attention so the all the details the family is providing or any vital information to be told to the family members.

These are 3 main main tip that will help during a emotionally challenging situations

Listen : Listen is not just sitting quiet and listening. It is about involving oneself and distractions are not encouraged. Do not interrupt them and take a note of their body language. At the end summarize to confirm with the family members and always remember to ask a follow up questions so that the patient's family has a clear idea that you understood what they tried to convey.
Non verbal ques: Nonverbal communication is an important factor by which patients spontaneously describe and evaluate their interactions with the medical assistant. So make sure to pay attention to the non verbal ques.
