Discuss in detail the impact of European farm animals on the ecosystems of Oceania. Why have the Dingo fence and the Rabbit Proof fence been necessary in Australia.? What does this tell us about the vulnerability of Oceania’s environment to invasive species, and toe changing patterns of food consumption based on introduced domesticated animals? Finally, why are coral reefs such as the Great Barrier Reef ecologically important to the coastal zones of Australia, and how are they threatened by climate change

Respuesta :

The evolution of flora and fauna across the islands of Australia and Oceania is very unique.

Many species of plants and animals reached the southern Asian islands  during the last ice age, when sea levels were low enough  for travel. THE DINGO Fence was built to keep dingos out of sheep pastures in South East Australia. As Australia's largest terrestrial predator, dingoes pose a major threat to livestock.

The Rabbit Proof Fence was built to protect Western Australia's crops and grasslands from rabbit disease. Introduced to Australia in Victoria in the 1850s, the pest quickly spread throughout eastern Australia.

They are home to a quarter of the ocean's marine life, generate clean air and protect vulnerable coastlines from erosion, flooding and storms. In Australia, our Great Barrier Reef is an irreplaceable and vital part of our ecosystem - and our economy.
