What is Carboniferous Period?

The term carboniferous refers to the production of the carbon and coal over an area. The carboniferous period refers to the period or the geological time frame in which coal beds initially started to emerge.

It was during the Carboniferous when animal life first established itself on land. During the previous epoch, the Devonian period, floral life established itself on land and started to flourish.

The carboniferous began from about 360 million to 300 million years ago, and the Carboniferous was characterized by thick, marshy woods that produced significant peat deposits.

Therefore, it can be concluded that The Carboniferous Period is the time when amphibians first appeared.
