The White House Plumbers, also simply called The Plumbers, were a secret White House task force formed on July 24, 1971, during the presidency of Richard Nixon. Thier job was to prevent leaks of classified information to news media such as the Pentagon Papers. Nixon's "Special Investigation Unit" was formed in 1971 to illegally block his news leaks. The plumber's chief he was Egil Krogh, Jr. The plumbers broke into the office space of Lewis Fielding, Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist who leaked the Pentagon Papers to the press. The plumbers were part of Nixon's political maneuvers and were also involved in the Watergate scandal.
