From a sociological perspective, culture helps to define and distinguish between different societies, and it is the organization of people into different societal groups that in time foster cultural differences. For example, there are plenty of differences between the social and cultural attributes of Americans and Japanese.

Sociologists define culture as the collection of symbols, beliefs, values, language, arts and artifacts, institutions, etc. that belong to a given set of people. Society refers to a group of people who reside in a particular geographical area and adhere to distinct cultural practices.
