Reciprocal inhibition describes the relaxation of muscles on one side of a joint to accommodate contraction on the other side. Quadriceps femoris muscle are large fleshy muscle group covering the front and sides of the thigh. It has four parts namely rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermediate. Quadriceps femoris consists of the rectus femoris and the three vastus muscles. These muscles work together to extend the knee and stabilize the patella, or kneecap.
