It is well known that Libraries are a Window to the World of Knowledge
For over 40 years, the state library and as well as other local libraries withing the state of New York has suffered
- dilapidation
- lack of care
- loss of critical staff due to low motivation
- serious decline in usage.
It is not surprising therefore that less and less people visit every year and the statistics show that more students are not interested in using the library.
This is an appeal for the state to consider setting aside an annual budget that would cater to the upscaling, and upcycling of the libraries withing the state.
Our research shows that many 92% of students in the state would subscribe if:
- The books were made accessible online
- The physical spaces were renovated to have a more contemporary feel
- There was free WI-FI to encourage research in situ
- There are current books on cutting edge technology
- There is an online connection with other online libraries using same subscription;
- there are mini hubs for IT students in situ.
Our state has always been at the forefront of interstate academic debates, cutting edge research breakthroughs and intellectual resilience.
I strongly believe that fixing our libraries will bring us back to this point. The future is for those who value knowledge and libraries are the window to the world of knowledge.
