When such a stream flows along the natural levee of the main river, it is referred as a "belated confluence" or a "delayed junction" as the two intersect. The Yazoo Indians, a Native American tribe that was wiped off, inspired the name. Due to the powerful torrents that are under its bank in full stage, the Choctaw term is translated as the "River of Death."
A comparable derived relic of the paleoriver is the moesian stream or flow. In reality, several Yazoo streams are paleo-remnants of a single ancient river. Mossy Creek, Missouri, and Jezava, Morava, are two excellent instances of mesopotamian flow.
