There are cells called neurons that form nervous tissue. They all branch out and are connected near each other but they don't actually touch. There tiny spaces between the cells call synapses and this is where most of the activity occurs. Each neuron is sort of like a phone. It takes instructions from one side and sends out a message on the other. Neurons have dendrites and axons. Axons send out chemicals across the synapses that act as messages to cells that it is connected with. The dendrites of the neurons pick up these messages and then the cell does whatever the messages say. Nerve cells have many branching dendrites for multiple connections with axons but usually only one long axon. However, the end of the axon can branch off to and connect to multiple neurons. Now, all these neurons working together can process some complicated natural computations that when all working together are what allows your nervous system to function.
