How would the placing of  the newborn suffering from myelomeningocele in a prone or lateral position prevent injury ?

Myelomeningocele which is a neural tube defect as result of the spinal canal not fully formed is found in babies and as a nurse to prevent the child from suffering from injury,

it is advice able to place the child in lateral position since the spinal bones is not that strong to hold him.
