John and Jack divided their math homework. John solved twice as many questions as Jack, plus one problem. How many problems did each boy solve if their were 28 problems?

John solved 21 probelms

John = JO

Jack = JA

JO = 2JA + 1

JA + JO + 28

since we have two equations we can just substitute in the value for JO and solve.

JA + 2JA + 1 = 28

3JA = 27

JA = 9

Then we can check our answer
