It's often a matter of personal preference. A lot of people just don’t enjoy reading. Some of those people maybe don't enjoy the sitting still and patience that reading requires and other people haven't given reading a full chance. Certain shops and restaurants also have more required needs like buying supplies and eating, so people could choose the library and restaurants/shops. Choosing branded clothes is a matter of culture. Some people were raised in an environment where they see that branded clothes may be more trendy.
