fingering a glass of beer
I have bought without
any intention to drink –
I see a little boy
poking for something
in a refuse dump –
looking for a future?
I am afraid, the stars say
your road leads to another
balcony just like this one
where you will sit fingering
a beer you have bought without
any intention to drink.

This poem describes the way in which author is sat on a balcony while observing a kid looking for food in a dump.

What does the beer represent?

The fact the narrator does not drink the beer but only fingers at the glass shows there is not purpose on drinking the beer and he is rather bored and does not have any purpose, which shows life itself is purposeless.

What does the boy represent?

The boy supports the idea of life being sad, repetitive and purposeless as he keeps looking for food without sucess.

What do the stars represent?

The stars appeal to the future that predict the life of the boy will be similar to the life of the narrator.
