Answer:

Huck believes in slavery because of his upbringing in the south. He assists Jim because Jim is his friend. Huck is also a little boy who would benefit from traveling with someone. Jim wanted to accompany Huck when he found out he was going to run away. Although Jim had his doubts that Huck would not report him as a runaway slave to Miss Watson. Throughout the novel, Huck has moments where he believes what he is doing is wrong. He puts those feeling to the side though and help Jim because he is a friend. He assists Jim because he values friendship over rules.
