As you know all kind of vertical transfers are along the y-axis thus :

$y = |x + 2| + 1$

$y = | x + 2| - 1$

Working with the operation along the x-axis are all opposite so when the question say transfer the graph on unit to left it means to decrease all x values by one unit and we have to do the inverse work with mean to increase all the x values by one unit :

$y = |(x +1 ) + 2|$

$y = |x + 3|$

$y = |(x - 1) + 2|$

$y = |x + 1|$
