Since (a) & (b) both equal to x, that means 7y + 7 = 9y - 2

7y + 7 = 9y - 3 →
7 + 3 = 9y - 7y

10 = 2y    and y =  5. Replace y=5 either in (a) or in (b) and you will find x=42

Ten the solution is (42, 5)
