From personal experience, I have found that pursuing happiness can be detrimental because you're trying so hard to be happy that you aren't living in the moment. Happiness should be about appreciating what you already have and being grateful for where you are at instead of always wanting more. In addition, you might compare yourself to others during your pursuit of happiness, which can lower your self-esteem.
