1. Wuthering Heights also relates to social classes. In the beginning of the story (chronologically) The Earnshaws represent the lower class living at Wuthering Heights. The Lintons, at Thrushcross Grange, represent the high class. The Earnshaws demonstrate the characteristics of wild, dirty, relaxed, casual, hard workers. Whereas, the Lintons are refined, proper, gentle, quite, highly educated, and well respected. This is because the Earnshaws have less money, and the Lintons are wealthy. The twist begins when Catherine Earnshaw stays at the Lintons' Thrushcross Grange and becomes a "lady." Once Catherine E. becomes proper, she craves being in the higher class, therefore marries Edgar Linton, even though she loves Heathcliff. Aside from all the revenge and love triangles, this book is much about social economic classes and the problems which come, when the two clash.
2. The assertion of the autocratic male dominance, was not an uncommon ideal in Emily Brontë’s time and her novel Wuthering Heights, was thus no exception to the influence of Patriarchal oppression. As such, this essay presents an analysis of the portrayal of Patriarchal domination in Wuthering Heights and its influence on the female characters. Brontë’s three central female protagonists emulate a joint impasse that emerges when individual identity is set against the strong social forces of gender roles emphasising the constraining effect of social, physical and emotional imprisonment. Their oppressors, (either mindfully or unconsciously) encourage the domestication and suppression of women’s liberation. Consequently, their domineering and pernicious actions produce a ravaging effect for Brontë’s female protagonists.
3. Several themes emerge out of this central conflict of love versus society. The first is revenge: Heathcliff is determined to revenge himself on the Earnshaw and Linton families, both of whom he blames for destroying the possibilities of love between he and Catherine. He does this by using the weapons of his society—most notably money and patriarchy—against his enemies. For example, he elopes with Linton's sister to hurt Linton and uses his patriarchal power as a husband to mistreat his wife. He uses gambling (money) to get ahold of Wuthering Heights.
4. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is a prime example of the Gothic romance genre. As stated above, the presence of the supernatural, isolated settings, and the drama surrounding the characters' romantic entanglements are all present within the novel.
