California Candor is a type of bird that was first discovered in California in October 1805. Then, the birds occupied a huge range and scavenge on whales found on the beach and other large sea animals. The birds were drove to the brink of extinction by human activities such as habitat destruction, uncontrolled shooting, improper eggs collection and poisoning by ranchers. By 1982, only 22 California candor remained and these were taken and put into captive breeding program in order to prevent their total extinction.
