1) Let 'A' = Alex's Height
A=x^2

2) Let 'D' = Doug's Height
A+5=D

3) D=x^2 + 5

4) A= 24^2 = 576 (inches)
-Alex is 576 inches tall.
D= 576+5
D=581 Inches
-Doug is 581 inches tall.

5) X show's Alex's brother's height. After the height is squared it equals Alex's height.

doug=2x+5

doug=2(24)+5
doug=53

this value tells us that doug is 53 inches tall
alex is 48 inches tall
