Before I answer what a non-literal equation is,

You first need to remember that a literal equation is an equation that consists primarily of letters. Formulas are an example of literal equations. x2 + y2= 1 is a literal equation because x and y both appear in the equation.

But, x2+x=1 is NOT a literal equation because x is the only variable that appears. Y is not there in the equation.


So, non-literal equations are equations that do not have both x and y in the equation like the example shown above.
