Boycotts:  Used to protest practices that are regarded as unfair. The boycott was popularized by Charles Stewart Parnell during the Irish land agitation of 1880 to protest high rents and land evictions. Boycotts let people put their money where their values are. Boycotts offer people in the community a way to stand up for what they believe in. If the boycott is well organized, it allows people to stand up for their beliefs in a way that is easy and relatively painless. The purpose of a boycott is to inflict some economic loss on the target, or to indicate a moral outrage, to try to compel the target to alter an objectionable behavior.

Civil disobediance: Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal of a citizen to obey certain laws, demands, orders or commands of a government. Civil disobedience is sometimes equated with peaceful protests or nonviolent resistance. Civil disobedience movement was launched because the british made an unjust law in which anyone could be arrested without a trial. Non-violent civil disobedience is effective because it emphasizes a group's proposed injustice within an institution, while directly appealing to the different ethical systems of individual citizens.
