Apply Mark Twain's advice on starting a writing project. Follow the steps above to
create your own set of cards for generating story ideas. As you generate ideas, remember Jeff Martin’s description of his own process for writing “The Passage.” Let your own memories of people, places, and problems suggest some of your ideas. You don’t have to write a story yet—just be sure to generate at least five storylines and record them in your journal.
here are the steps
Short stories often contain only one or two main characters, but each character in your list should be one that you can imagine at the heart of a story. On five separate index cards, briefly describe five different characters—one character per card.

Step 2: List setting ideas.
A short story takes place in a contained setting—usually just one location—over a short period of time. On five separate index cards, briefly describe five different settings.

Step 3: List conflict ideas.
Conflict is what drives a story to its meaningful end. In a short story, there is just one central conflict. On five separate index cards, briefly describe five different possible conflicts.

Step 4: Pick a card from each stack.
Assemble a story line by choosing one idea from each category: character, setting, and conflict. Write a sentence that describes what the story would be about.

Step 5: Just go with it—start writing!
Choose the storyline that seems most interesting to you—the one you want to see happen. Then start writing, and see where your story goes.

Answer:

Oh man this is tough, but i'll help you since i have alot of characters and story plots to spare. So.

Characters

1: An orphan and older sister, on the run from something in her past along with her little brother. She's rough around the edges but still manages to be caring and a protective force.

2: A bourgeoise man who was always sickly, he never talks to anyone but adults that seem keener on getting his money and favour than anything else. He's slightly cynical and makes jokes about his own situation in his narration.

3: A center of the community. She's the most adored, dependable person in the entire town. She's also someone with the most pressure put on her. She's helpful and docile but motiveless, letting herself be used.

4: The wanderer. It seems to be a doll that came to life under mysterious circumstances. It walks the earth in search of something. Hoping to use it's experience to think like a human.

5: A spirit, it hides in nooks and crannies where nature flourishes. Its hatred is the driving force of all it's motivation. It absolutely hates everything to do with humanity.

Setting ideas:

1: A highrise building, it is in the heart of the city and is also an economic center, a mix of a recreational venue and housing.

2: A back town area. Both delinquents and travelers alike go through here once or twice to stop by.

3: The countryside, pastoral and home to many little towns, it seems nice, but each town seems to have a nasty secret...

4: A school, it may or may not be abandoned. Whatever was here is here no longer. It may be perfect housing for someone under a great deal of stress, or provide more if it's still active.

5: A inhabited cavern system. It has mushrooms that light it up faintly with a waterfall inside it, quite peaceful.

Conflict:

1. A war with responsibility and want, what you need to do and what you want to do. And the eventual choice between either or compromise

2. Shattering of expectations and how to cope with things being less than ideal, but also moving on despite how much drearier reality is

3. Finding yourself vs Fitting in, how it's better to make yourself happy before anyone else is satisfied, the feeling of burnout and societal expectations and conformity

4. Protecting something precious to you, even if the world tries to harm it you won't let that happen.

5. Breaking cycles, the end of something old in exchange for something new, most notably things like family practices, or old habits that don't serve you anymore.
