Assuming that the two lines that appear side by side are parallel, we can assume that the two angles that are unknown add up to 180 degrees, by the Alternate Angle Theorem:

  • Alternate Angle Theorem: When two parallel lines are cut by a transversal then resulting alternate interior angles are congruent. Look at the image I posted for a visual aid, the angles shown are only there to show that they add up to 180 degrees

Thus we get the equation:

    (-13x + 39) + (-4x + 5) = 180

     -17x + 44 = 180

       -17x = 136

        x= - 8

Now for the individual angle:

   First angle: -13x + 39 = -13(-8) + 39 = 143

   Second angle: -4x + 5 = -4(-8) + 5 = 32 + 5 = 37

Hope that helped
