The Atlantic puffin feeds on several different species of Atlantic fish. A population of puffins living on Matinucus Rock was found to feed primarily on the types of fish shown in the graph below. The beaks of this group of puffins are shaped to grasp species A particularly well because it is the main species of fish in the ocean around this island. Suppose a puffin in this population is born with a shorter beak that cannot effectively grasp Species A. Predict what would happen to this bird. Explain your reasoning based on what you know regarding genetic adaptations.

The image shows a circle graph depicting the percent of species that the Atlantic Puffin feeds upon. Species A is 79 percent, species B is 14 percent, and species c is 7 percent

Respuesta :

The bird must adapt to its environment hence it will develop adaptive structures  that will enable it to effectively grasp and feed on other fish species.

What is adaptation?

The term adaptation refers to physical and morphological changes in an organism that accompanies changes in the environment of  an organism.

The question is incomplete but I will try to help as much as possible. Now, we know that in the absence of the ability to grasp species A, the bird must adapt to its environment hence it will develop adaptations that will enable it to effectively grasp and feed on other fish species.
