Since the book was a biography and not an autobiography, it was not written as a primary source and therefore not experienced firsthand.
Primary source- An article or piece of text that gives information that was witnessed firsthand.
Secondary source- An article or piece of text that gives information that was not witnessed firsthand
Biography- A book or article written by someone else telling a story of someone's life.
Autobiography- A book or article written by someone telling a story of their own life. (A way I like to remember autobiography is, you automatically know all of the events and information on your life, so you can write an autobiography perfectly well.)
