Part 1
The figure shows a claw hammer as it pulls a
nail out of a horizontal board. If a force of magnitude 133 N is exerted
horizontally as shown, find the force exerted
by the hammer claws on the nail. (Assume
that the force the hammer exerts on the nail
is parallel to the nail).
Answer in units of N

Part 2
Find the force exerted by the surface on the
point of contact with the hammer head. Assume that the force the hammer exerts on the
nail is parallel to the nail.
Answer in units of N.

Part 1 The figure shows a claw hammer as it pulls a nail out of a horizontal board If a force of magnitude 133 N is exerted horizontally as shown find the force class=

Respuesta :

The force exerted by the hammer claws on the nail is =1578N

How to calculate magnitude of force:

The force that is applied, as the effort on the hammer= F1

The force exerted by the hammer claws on the nail= F2

But,

magnitude of force exerted on hammer= F1*d1

While magnitude of force exerted by the hammer claws on the nail = F2( d2sin30°)

And, F1*d1 = F2( d2sin30°)

Where F1 = 133N

d1 = 29cm = 0.29m

F2 = X

d2 = 4.89cm = 0.0489m

After substitution,

133 × 0.29 = X( 0.0489 × sin30°)

38.57 = X ( 0.0489 × 0.5)

38.57 = X(0.02445)

X= 38.57/0.02445

X = 1578N

Therefore, the force exerted by the hammer claws on the nail is =1578N
