The Puerto Rico campaign was a siege by the American military. It involved a sea and land operation on the island of Puerto Rico during the Spanish–American War.
America began its offensive on May 12, 1898, when the Navy attacked the capital, San Juan. Though there was minimal damage on the city, the Americans were able to establish a blockade in the city's harbor, San Juan Bay.
At the end of the campaign, Spain lost the last of its empire in the New World and Puerto Rico was ceded to he United States .
