Get two magnets and ten objects made of metal, such as a paper clip, a pencil, a can of soup, a nail, and a spoon. Make a list of the objects, and then write a prediction as to whether each object would be attracted or not.
a. Hold one magnet near each object, and write down the result. Are any of them attracted to the magnet?
b. Touch one end of magnet #1 to magnet #2; what happens? It should either attract it or repel it.
Now touch the other end of magnet #1 to the same end of magnet #2 that you already touched - what happens? If it was attracted the first time, it will now be repelled. If it was repelled the first time, it will now be attracted.
