Behavior of water is much different than other substances.  

Every substance expands on heating and contract on cooling but in case of water it contracts when you heat it upto 4°C and then expands at 4°C it has minimum volume and maximum density.

As water get cool from 4c to 0 It's volume increases and density decreases this because of hydrogen bonding inside it.
