Raphael Lemkin was a student of an university in 1920s. He came to know about the massacres of World War I were groups of people were killed.

Life goal of Lemkin

  • Lemkin created the word genocide from the Greek word genos and Latin work cide which means race and killing respectively. The word genocide means killing of ethnic groups or tribes.

  • His main aim was to bring in focus these crimes which he termed as genocide and in which he lost 49 members of his family.
