Shelley needs your help. She needs to order expensive wire to connect her computer to her built-in speakers and would like your help to save money.
She plans to place her computer somewhere on a desk that is 6 feet wide. Speaker A is located 3 feet above one end of the desk, while speaker B is located 2 feet above the other end. She will need wire to connect the computer to speaker A, and additional wire to connect it to speaker B. Where should she place to the computer to use the least amount of wire?
Using similar triangles we get the ratio of 3/2 = x/6-. We cross multiply and get 3x=18-3x. We simplify and get 5x=18. Now to solve for x, divide both sides by 5 and we get 18/5 which is 3.6
